problem with my network

By havock ·
i want to connect my 2 pcs using crossover cable. i already have a pre installed NIC on my mboard so i thought that connecting the 2 pc for small 2 player game should be easy.

i already inserted the ends of the x over cable to their respective slots. the cable is fine and is working because a note saying that my local area connection is connected. i already did the basics to know that my LAN network is working.

the problem is, when i ping the ip address of the other computer (comp 2) it gave me a requested timeout, while "pinging" itself (comp 1) would return a message that replys to the ping

my frend to told me that it could be the ICF that prevents the connection of the 2 pcs, but i already turn off any antivirus software or firewall in my computer and still i have the same problem.. could any one please help me with this?!?!

thnax in advance

Both computers need manual ip address set

by Mr.Wiz In reply to problem with my network

You'll need to setup a manual ip address on both computers. Use the same type of addresses on both (same subnet). You can use something like 192.168.0.2 on one and 192.168.0.3 on the other one.

i already did that sir, i assigned pc1 with 192.168.0.1 while pc2 with 192.168.0.2 and with same subnet of 255.255.255.0 but still, they could not ping each other..

Firewall

by simonrobinson.techrepublic In reply to still having problems

Check for firewallls on both PCs. As well as windows firewall look for firewalls on McCaffee and Norton. Try pinging from both PCS. If just one PC can ping then its that PC with the firewall.

Also bear in mind that the link light you are seeing just means that 2 of the four wires the network card is using are working. There is teh posibility the other two aren't working.
