Problem With New External Drive Using USB External Case

by columbiagreek . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

I bought a brand new Maxxom 300 GB internal drive. I have hooked it up to my XP Notebook using a Mad Dog USB External USB Case. I have hooked up two other drives like this without any problems at all. The Mad Dog case comes with its own power supply, but I still plug in the usb cord directly into my laptop usb slot anyway. Windows XP recognized the new MASS STORAGE DEVICE at once, as it did the other drives when I connected them in the same manner. It assigned it a letter, just like it did to the other drives I connected, but I cannot format or partition the drive at all. Under “Properties” it shows it being full… It is brand new. I have tried Partition Magic 8 to format and partition the drive… no luck. What can I do. The XP disk management is of no help because it ands well as Partition Magic 8 see the drive but will not format ir or partition it. Thanks for your help!
