Problem with pages loading

By jeremy ·
I have an AMD Athlon 2100+ with 512 MB DDR ram running on Windows XP Professional with SP2. For awhile now, Ive been having a problem where pages sometimes wont load. Then after a little while they load again and then the problem reoccurs. Im using IE. It happens whether I am using a wired lan or wireless. What could be causing this? I have scanned for viruses and spyware and cleaned it and also reset the IE settings. Any ideas?

Download and install Mozilla Firefox browser. If problem persists in Firefox, then it's likely an OS or malware problem. If slowness goes away, problem is related to IE or malware that affects IE but not Firefox.

You may want to continue using Firefox once you try it. It is an excellent browser and not yet as susceptible to attack as IE.

Check your IE properties for what objects are installed(General, Settings, View Objects). Its been my experience that a damaged object can cause pages to fail to load occasionally. You may also wish to Repair Internet Explorer by clicking Change/Remove in Add/Remove Programs. I would recommend setting a restore point before doing that...we all know how reliable functions like that can be.

I hope that helps some

Is the network connection the same (such as at home where you are hooking up directly to the modem/router as wired and also trying wireless)? I agree with will that it could be an ie problem and if a different browser like firefox might prove that out. If it doesn't then the next thing I would look at is the dns settings. I had problems like that in the past and changed the connections dns setting to point to the router instead of automatically obtained and that resolved the problem.

Cheers.

Are you having problems with all types of pages loading or just secure pages? If just secure pages (like banking or credit card) you might need to reregister or update your security dll files.

IE???

I have used the Opera browser for a long time and it works great. In fact, it even tells you exactly what is happening on your screen so you know exactly when to press ALT+CTRL+DEL
