Problem with Trojan Viruses

By stargate1121 ·
I am running a Dell computer with Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2 and I have acquired 3 trojans and can't get rid of them or find them.
I have run my virus scanner (AVG) and it doesn't find them but I ran AD-Aware and it picks them up and my virus scanner shows them and it says they can't be cleaned and I opened the file (which was hidden) which was
C:\System Volume Information\_Restore and it says the file is empty, so am not sure how to get rid of them, but I really need to, short of re-loading my Windows. I have done that before and it's a lot of trouble.I would like to find a way to do it without having to re-load my windows.I also tried running Trend Micro on here and it didn't find it either.
I hope someone can help me.
Susan
Oh yea. the virus is called Downloader Zlob.IBO. two are exe files and the third one is a dll. I got the names of the files from my avg but cannot find them on my computer.

yea it would help as I found numerous trojans in my registry but you have to buy the program to get it to work and I don't have $30.00 for it. any other ideas??

When I found the entry, I thought it was a freebie.

Are you in a position to wipe the pc clean and reinstall? I know that is a major pain in the tail but the only other thing I can think of if AVG isn't able to kill it.

If you do take this step, you will want to use something like Boot&Nuke first to completely cleanse the drive. You'll find it here: http://dban.sourceforge.net/.

Sorry Susan. Beyond that I am totally out of ideas.

Good luck!

Hey Susan!

Try a Google search on spyware, free, antivirus. You will get a variety of returns. Many of them have trial periods that you may be able to use to get rid of your current problem.

Good luck!

Spybot

is free. You can make a donation if you like. It should remove Zlob. EDited. You do not need to use Boot and Nuke at this stage, that is a last resort that i have never had to use.

Right you are!

I am hoping that she will be able to find a workable solution. But if no solution presents, that would fix the problem.

But it IS kind of like swatting a fly with a sledge hammer!

I agree

i also dont like to back up anything from an infected PC. Those little nasties can be found anywhere these days. EG: E:\program files. It is pretty obvious to a tech but not the normal user.
