Are these PC's in a workgroup or a domain?

If they are in a domain, you need to create assign a security group rights on the folders.

If they are members of a workgroup, you need to create a local user account on every pc with a password. When you access a share, you would use that user name and password to connect.

Note that you have a limit of 10 IP connections with XP and may not be able to connect to remote PC's depending upon how applications/OS is using the TCP/IP connections.

And enabling the guest account is a BAD idea....

be sure to use a cross-over UTP cable if its only 2 PC's. Put both pc's on the same workgroup. give them each an ip adress which is easy to remember like, and ; share both PC's harddrives, with the default sharename "c" ; this setting u can find by rightclicking ur c-drive and selecting "sharing and security"... u can now ping both PC's bi-directional, by typing in the "RUN" command window of each PC. (ping and ping - individually) this will check if u have "positive connection" also. ok, now u can explore ur network neighbourhood, and u should c the other PC.
