I formatted a new 20 GB, 7200 rpm hard drive and installed into a new system ( 4XCD-ROM, GA-72X motherboard at 100 Mhz with a Duron 750, and 128 MB PC-133. It also has a 1 MB Video Card and ISA NIC) I set it to boot from CD and installed Widows, oops, I mean WInDOWS ME, it appeared to setup fine but when it reboots, it freezes at a blue screen with the word Microsoft in the lower left hand corner of the screen and a small box in the upper right hand corner (almost looks like a little tv) the mouse just sits there pretending to be busy (I’m starting to hate that mouse, it’s toying with my mind 😉
If I boot from CD(Start Windows with CD Support) i get an error message that ifshlp.sys is not loading. I enter the line devicehigh=c:\windows\ifshlp.sys into the c:\config.sys file but it does not help. I thought it might be a motherboard driver issue so I booted into safe mode successfully but it wouldn’t recognize my CD-ROM. If i boot from CD however, it always starts at the a: drive (with no floppy in it) and I have to type c:\windows\win to get it to start. I would appreciate any answers and will give points for help right away. Thank you. I can be e-mailed directly at finnie@apexmail.com for any step by step help.
