Problems sharing CD-RW between PC's

By rmhughes0711 ·
I have a CD burner on my desktop. I use it primarily for burning CD-R files and it works fine.

Recently, however, I have experienced problems writing CD-RW disks that can be read on other PC's. It seems the first time I write to a CD-RW, everything works as planned and I am able to read it on other PC's. However, when I try to add additional files to the same CD, things start to fall apart. It appears from the desktop(source) that everything writes to the cd. I can go to My computer and see the files I wrote. When I take the disk to another PC, I am unable to see the new files, however, I can still see the old ones. In addition, if I look at the properties of the drive, it reports the disk is full even though it has only 40 mb written to it.

I have tried different software but still have the same problem. Please help!!

Have you tried NERO 5.5? In Nero, before you start writing, there is a choice if you want to have a multi session. If you click Start Multi session, then you can still add files to write on it. But if you did not choose it, then Nero will close the session and even though you only have 10 mb written, it won't accept anymore. Hope this helps.

Have you tried different brands of RW disks?

Some don't work as well with some recorders as others.

You say that you have tried different software.
Are you sure the previous software was COMPLETELY removed.
There are some utilities posted onAHead Software's (nero Burn) site to address this issue.

I have also seen CD-RW disks suddenly loose their format.
I see it most often when a disk is formatted in 1 drive, and written to in another.

As to the disk full, unless you have the disk in a CD-RW drive with the RW software running in the background, the disk will be reported as full.
This is a "normal" condition of the CD specification.

What "speed" is the CD-RW disc rated for and what speeds are the two drives rated to handle?
