problems with dialup

By jfhgadget ·
When I'm offline, my system constantly pops up a dialup box. With enough frequency that it disrupts other programs.

Possibly you have another program that is trying to poll the internet, such as Outlook. If that program is always open and is set to automatically check for email, it will dial in to your ISP everytime it checks for new email. Bring up the task monitor and click on the processes tab and click the CPU field until the high percentages are at the top of the list. Then look to see which program is running just before the dial-up pops up.

Maybe you got some ad-ware. Use msconfig to check what's running at startup and try to deselect unneeded progs. Obviously you must be sure that your system is clean from viruses.
Good luck.

yes lots of good answers here, is your moden set to always connect to your local isp,and try to connect every???? if so disable it to never connect, this will mean your modem will never try to connect only you can connect it, its the wording people think if ticking that their modem will never connect, same with outlook express in accounts and options >disable the cheak for new messages every ??? and untick the box> always use this account to connect, of course tick working offline. That about covers the simple steps. Regards Merete

You have virus or spyware or both trying to call momma.

Scan for virus and spyware.

I use spybot. It is free.
