Problems with flash and internet explorer

By lisa_majewski ·
I have developed a website using flash MX 2004. When viewed in internet explorer the user cannnot click on any buttons without hitting the spacebar first or clicking somewhere else on the page first. There is even a message that says "click spacebar to continue." Here is the address: www.promeasure.com.
I notice that a lot of other websites created in flash have this same issue. I have also noticed that when I view the website in other broswers, this issue does not exist. So my question is , Is there any way to get rid of this message? And if so where do I specify the parameters? Is it a flash issue or an internet explorer issue? Any information would help!!

Thanks.

Flash and IE7

by CaptBilly1Eye In reply to Problems with flash and i ...

Hi Lisa,
BTW... nice site!

I am assuming you are using Internet Explorer 7 since the situation you describe is one related to an issue between flash elements and the new 'increased security' of IE7.
You will most likely find that the site works fine in IE6 and Firefox.
I have found that in many cases, performing all the up-to-date Windows Updates and reinstalling the ActiveX Flash Player component removed the little window that says 'click spacebar to use this feature' or 'click here to activate this control.'

If you are unable to see flash content in IE7, here is a solution:

1. Uninstall Flash Player by using their uninstaller:

2. Reinstall Flash Player:

If that doesn't do the trick,
3. Download the Flash Player stand-alone installer:
http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie

4. Then right click the install file and select 'Run as Administrator.'

side note... I was able to view the site fine using both IE6 and IE7.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know.
