Problems with FreeCell...

By mcwhirtergil ·
This is not an earth shattering problem but maybe you can help. Since I downloaded my new Explorer 6 and all the security and critical upgrades, my FreeCell does not work properly. I have tried re-installing it from my Master CD but that does not help. Strange... worked fine before... Any suggestions? Thanks, Gil McWhirter

Problems with FreeCell...

See if one of these fits.

Ctfmon.exe runs if you have installed Microsoft Office XP with the Office Shared Features/Alternative User Input feature. FreeCell (Freecell.exe) and Solitaire (Sol.exe) do not provide sufficient stack space to accommodate the needs of Ctfmon.exe.

To work without ctfmon, look at this artcle. Type the Q number in the search box of technet.microsoft.com
What Is CTFMON and What Does It Do?
Q282599

Another suggestion is to locate and rename these three files:
(maybe freecellexe.old, etc)
freecell.exe
freecell.hlp
cards.dll>>

Locate the "known good" versions of these files (perhaps from Win98 Second Edition) and replace these files in the same folders
