I have a 2 year old SONY laptop(PCG-R505JL). Off late, the keys on my keyboard seem to be playing up.. the cursor randomly goes to previous positions /words, making typing a nightmare. Is there anything I can do ?

Assuming that you don't have a virus or trojan:

Remove and clean or replace the keyboard.

Laptop keyboard are customer replaceable equipment in that it is usually three or four screws and easy removal.

The Primary User Manual found by searching for "PCGR505JL" on this Sony page will show you how to remove the keyboard easily.

Just scroll to Page.88 about "Memory replcement" for keyboard screw locations.

This might help:
the laptop keyboard usually does not get much dirt because it has rubber cap that seals most of the dust to come in contact with the PCB(Printed Circuit Board).
it is most likely that you have a defective tape cable that links your keyboard PCB to your motherboard. have it checked by a service/hardware technician that is familiar with this laptop. if the need to raplace the tape cable, it can be done since it cost lesser than the service charge that you are going to pay for.
