PROBLEMS WITH NEW COMP W/ XP

by davecho7 . Updated 24 years, 9 months ago

I just got a brand new Dell system with windows xp home. After a couple hours of use, i formatted, so that i could reinstall windows and partition the hard drive. I partitioned the drive at the windows setup screen and everything seemed ok. A couple of hours later, the system became completely unstable, and began freezing.
After a few restarts, system just got past windows startup screen.
I reinstalled windows with a single partition, (at request of dell technician) and i didn’t run into any problems. For hours of use.
Tried to partition and install win xp again.
Now it can’t even get through the full install without freezing up.
So i guess my question would be, what should i do?
i don’t want to work with a non-partitioned drive. Why should partitioning make the system unstable?
Even if i can get this system running, I am worried that 4 formats and windows reinstalls + 1000 restarts, in the first day, might have long term effects on the computer. should i be worried?
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

Since Dell refuses to help me, you guys are my only hope.
Thanks.
