Problems with Outlook.

By nebheprura ·
Hello. I am having a problem figuring out an Outlook problem that involves a customer trying to send an email, and getting an error message about smpt. The system is XP. Does anyone have any insight into Outlook issues with this?

We need a little more information.
Just a shot in the dark though, the address you are trying to send to may be blacklisted for "Relaying, Porn or Spam". go to:
http://www.dnsreport.com/ and type in the email address they are having a problem with and see what it says.

Another guess ... Within OUTLOOK, check Tools, Accounts, Mail, Servers, SMTP Server. The SMTP server is probably incorrect. The customer will need to have the correct name of the SMTP server for his/her ISP. This is a common problem for laptop users who use an SMTP server from their home office but when they "plug in" elsewhere, they need to specify another SMTP (outgoing mail server). Most ISPs will not permit the use of their mail server by other accounts.

Also might want to find out if the email provider requires authentication. That needs to be set up from the Tools>Accounts>Properties>Servers Tab
