How do I obtain stated clock speed of my processor through software rather than by opening up the computer.?

Check out CPU-Z, a freeware program. It will give you that info and more.

Well you can go into your BIOS setup and check what speed your motherboard thinks the processor is. While it may not be the real speed due to overclocking or even underclocking, it is the effective speed.

Read it off of the boot screen.
The screen displayed after the Video Card BIOS screen display, will have the processor type and speed. This goes for almost all motherboards/BIOSs.
