Alright, here are a couple questions for anyone willing to answer.
I primarily use my father’s Mac(s), but I do have my own computer: a 2000 HP Pavilion XE743 running Windows XP Professional.
Not long ago, my little brother’s eMachines T2460 running Windows XP Home crapped out – the motherboard died. As a result, some of the components (hard drive, DVD drive, sound card, and a few cables) from his machine are now running in my Pavilion, mostly flawlessly (all except for an “invalid driver” for the hard drive I slaved in, but it works fine).
Now, here’s some information that is more… helpful, per se.
My Pavilion is running on a 601 GHz Intel Celeron processor, and given the fact that it was originally only designed to run Win98SE, it’s more than a bit slow, even after my “Pierce Treatment” (my own several step process to increase performance on a Windows XP computer).
I wondered if giving it a new processor would speed it up or kill it. I was thinking of taking possibly just one more thing from my brother’s little derelict: its 2.1 GHz AMD Athlon processor. It’s quite yummy. =-P
Would it be compatible with an XE743’s motherboard and original components without killing anything? And if the former holds true, how much could/would it increase the performance in general?
My final question: is there anyone who has successfully done this before??
I appreciate your time taken to read this, and would appreciate it that much more if you would leave an (educated) answer (and not yell at me or anything).
