Product Activation

By burnmac1 ·
I installed XP Pro on my machine and activated it as instructed from the cd cover. Now everytime I shut my machine down or add a software program it tells me to call microsoft and reactivate. I keep telling them it is a registered copy and they keep giving me codes but I want to fix this without having to reinstall the OS or wiping my hard drive.

Any suggestions ??

Ring MS Tech SUpport and get them to sort out the problem. There can be many reasons for this to happen and without knowing Exactly what it is that you have done it's impossible to give you a fix.

But this much I can tell you software shouldn't require the reactivation of Windows although if you change 3 pieces of hardware it will be an automatic action required every time you swap out any parts.

If you are installing MS Software that may very well require activation seperate to Windows XP but if you are gettng the XP Activation screen up whenever you install any software it sounds as if the original instal has some how been corupted and my advice would be more than just a reinstall I would save all the data wipe the drive and then do a clewan install witout the Quick Format option and start all over again.

If you intend to use Windows you'll need to get good at doing fast reinstalls as they are often required as unfortantly MS and Stability and Security should never be used in the same sentence refering to each other in a positive manner.
