Professional vs Home edition

By rmhughes0711 ·
I am setting up a new PC for my church and am having difficulty getting a logon screen to display. I can see the network and the computers in my workgroup. I can not, however, get a login screen so that all my my drive mappings are set on logon. The only thing I can see that might be different from the other ones I set up is that the problem pc is running XP Home edition instead of XP Professional. Is XP Home edition limited when it comes to this? Suggestions?

Yes indeed.

The primary difference between XP Pro and XP home is networking capabilities.

The Home in XP Home, means HOME.

XP Home is meant for single computer installations in a Home environment.

XP Pro has the following features that XP Home does not:
a) Attaching to a domain
b) IIS 5.1
c) Remote Desktop
d) Advanced Security

XP Home and Pro should both work in Workgroup.
How are you drive mapping mapped? A script or manually set up?

Have you tried to make a second user account? This should bring up a logon page

When you mapped the drives, did you set them to reconnect at login?
