Program too big to fit into memory

By rscanlon ·
Running in the DOS shell of XP. When trying to run a program called FOXPLUS I receive the message, "Program too big to fit into memory". I increased both the XMS and EMS memory in the DOS shortcut and tried both Win95 and Win98 compatibility modeswith no luck. I need this program to run. Any suggestions? Thanks.

For most DOS programs, when you run into memory errors, it is because there is not enough space in the first 640K of ram.

See if the program will run from a boot to the command prompt.

If so, what you need to do is find out how much "low" memory the program needs. You will need to adjust both XP and the DOS shortcut settings to increase the available memory.

Thanks for the help. I'm new to XP and my system won't boot into a command prompt following the instructions from XP/Help. My config.nt has DOS loading high which is about as far as my knowledge of this XP system extends. If you have any other suggestions or some help implementing more available memory I would be most appreciative.

This may be worth a try , don't have XP myself , works great on 98 .

For your swap file and DON'T set any min/max
parameters , let Windows handle it! THEN: put this entry in the system.ini file under [386enh] .
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
Check on your swap file occasionally; if you haven't been playing games or running intensive apps, the swap file often will be 0 (zero).

File or install is probably corrupt. do an uninstall and or download your setup file and then reinstall.
