Programs will not run

By jborza ·
Almost all programs requests choosing a program to open a selected program to RUN. However, most choices are not related to the programs in question. None of my system files will execute and I cannot RESTORE the unit.

The cptr will not run any ".exe" files stating it cannot find file, though the file is present.

I reviewed the REGISTRY files in reference to the setting and it is correct.

Any suggestions, Please?

Thanks
JB

Check your registry again.

Executable files don't open with anything but themselves.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\PersistentHandler]
@="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"

(That is XP - what are you running?)

If you use XP, go here
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
and get the fix for exe files. Unzip the file, right-click the reg file, select Merge.

Programs will not run

seanferd,

Your assistance was great. Everything appears to be back in order. Not sure but I suspect a VIRUS got past my Verizon Security screening/firewall?

Thank you. DougKnox's site is amazing too.

Best of the new year to you.

That's usually what does it.

This is a very good scanner and remover:
http://malwarebytes.org.
You can just use the free one.

How can you use regedit if none of the executable files run?
