Has anyone ever had this problem? When I try to click to open a program windows acts as though I am trying to move the shortcut rather than accessing it. It is a serial port mouse on a W98SE machine. Any suggestions would be great.

Any chance the mouse is configured with the buttons reversed?

You should be able to launch the program by right-clicking.

Straighten out the mouse from Start->Settings>Control Panel->Mouse.

I have had this problem. Sometimes restarting clears the problem, temporarily. I had to uninstall the mouse and its drivers. I then re-installed the mouse with new, more up-to-date drivers and I havent had the problem since.
