Project 2003 Hangs

I’ve encountered a problem when opening any project files saved to my local drive. The program will hang for several minutes and sometimes will open two windows of project which will both try to access the same file. I can open files stored on a network share without any problems. Only seems to occur when I open project files stored on my pc. Anyone encounter issues like this?
