Promoting Hardware/Software Standards

By AFROST ·
How can I sell/promote the standardization of hardware and software to upper management?

Obviously I need to break it down in terms of a cost savings. Does anybody have or has anybody seen an analysis of this?

Promoting Hardware/Software Standards

by lachance In reply to Promoting Hardware/Softwa ...

I cannot give a reference to a study (wish I could), but we have recently moved towards a standards model for SW and HW. We have seen real differences in cost in the following areas:
Single user or department pricing vs. corporate-level pricing (both HW and SW)
Help Desk hours providing support for standardized SW and equipment vs. individual support
License tracking, purchasing (administrative costs) have been reduced
Vendor support has dramatically increased, giving us much more rapid response to problems and parts requests, as well as better pricing

There are probably more areas where we have seen cost savings, but these have been pretty dramatic. I am all for standards! Good luck.
