Promotion of a secondary D.C. to primary

By jf555 ·
We have a stuation with an old NT Server as the Primary Domain Controller. We have installed another NT Server as the Secondary D.C. and tested it when the first D.C> went down. How do I promote the Secondary D.C> to Primary and then leave the old Primary turned off? thanks,

Hi there

Good old NT4 eh? Well, to promote a BDC to a PDC, you need to go to 'Administrative Tools' then 'Server Manager'. Highlight the machine you want to promote, then click 'Computer' and then 'Promote to Primary Domain Controller'.

Note: You MUST have the new machine installed as a BDC to perform this function.

Good Luck
Gary
