Locked searchbar unremovable

By pcmaster ·
There's a new parasite, spyware, adware...whatever it is called that attaches a toolbar to IE, places a bunch of files on the desktop and a bunch of other things. Things I've read claim it is unremovable at this time using anything easy. One method I saw was something I didn't want to tackle since it involved a multitude of processes I don't understand.

Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of this darn thing?

ok the first thing you need to do is download hijackthis. turn off system restore and run program. remove anything that has to do with prosearching processes and toolbars that you don't need. then if you don't have them download adaware and spybot search & destroy run them and it should be gone. don't forget to change your homepage or you might get it all back. this is what i did when i was hijacked by them a couple of months ago.

How do I turn off System Restore? Is this an XP thing? I thought this was a Windows 2000 forum. just so everyone knows....I'm running Windows 2000 Pro.

I do have Spybot installed now and ran it, but it didn't do anything. I guess I need to get HiJackthis. But, I need to know the process. Thanks.
