Proxy 2.0 & ISA

By grosero ·
Hello, how can force a windows client with Ie 5.x or > to user the proxy server.

When you do not use the proxy server and use Automatic Detection the client will be open to the whole Internet (Porno sites, etc, etc).

How can I prevent that?Thanks,
GR

To configure a client to use a proxy server.
Within IE Go to Tools
Internet Options
Connections (tab)
LAN Settings (button)
and configure the address and port of the proxy.

Good Luck,

even using proxy server 2.0, or even ISA Server, clients will still be able to go to porno sites etc unless you specifically block certain domains or IP addresses using protocol rules and filters. ISA server is better equiped to implement protocol rules and filters for blocking unwanted sites from client computers than proxy server 2.0.

Specific security configurations are to numerous and lenghty to post here so I'll direct you to Microsoft's Technet board for documents on configurations.

Can't ISA be told to block access to port 80? If you're proxy is running on, say, port 8080, and you block outgoing access to port 80 from your network, this should effectively force users to use the proxy settings.

I don't know if IE's "automatically detect proxy settings" will still work; you may have to manually set the proxy settings in IE. Still, the primary purpose will have ben accomplished (forced use of the proxy server)
