Proxy 2.0 -vs- Netscape 6

By Mikel~T ·
Greetings:

I have microsoft proxy server 2.0 installed on a NT 4 server. I have a hybrid network of macs and pcs. I am only using the Proxy for authentication of users so they can access the internet. The problem I am having is that I can't get Netscape 6 to work on either the pcs, or the macs.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Mike...

Actually it is for configuring the PCs. But I do not know for the MACs. I assume your PCs are installed with any MS Windows OS (9x,NT,2000). You have to load Microsoft Proxy Client in the PCs by running setup from the shared dirctory "mspclnt" in your Proxy Server. The directory is shared automatically by the proxy server setup. This setup has to be run form the client PC network neighborhood. After this the machine has to be rebooted (which is not necessary) and set the netscape proxy settingsin edit/preferences/advanced/proxies to "direct connection to the intenet". It works fine at our place. Best OF Luck.

agreed, for PC install the winsock proxy client, for MAC, they work best with SOCKS, so enable the MAC systems for all protocols via socks, port 1080
