Proxy 2SP1 services hanging

Proxy 2SP1 services hanging
I have two proxy servers running version 2SP1 on NT4 SP5 IIS3, set up as caching servers only, behind a firewall. Every now and again, the web proxy, FTP and winsock proxy services will hang - not always all of them. The services can't be stopped. Only a reboot cures it. They do a scheduled reboot every 1hr, but that's not acceptable. The time taken for the hang to occur varies from 5 minutes to several days. Both servers are different hardware, so it's not that at fault. I've tried re-service packing the servers, but still have the same problems. One has only recently been rebuilt. I've noticed sometimes, but not always, active connections to 0.0.0.0, various ports - does this have any bearing on the situation?

A little more detail:

When the services hang, an FTP connection can be made, but no login prompt is given.

When using a browser directed to the proxy server, an error returns after about 10 seconds saying the web server (on the internet) cannot be contacted.

There is no antivirus on these servers, and logging has been disabled; suggestions from previous answers

If possible, try upgrading IIS 3 to IIS 4.

A combination of removing logging, removing caching, applying SP6a, enabling logging and ensuring log files are moved from the server every night fixed the problem.

It could be SP6a, or it could be a fragmentation issue.
