Proxy - AOL Configuration

By philldmc ·
I have a laptop for one of our Execs that travel often. I want to be able to set her laptop to access the Internet from work through a Proxy server and then when she is away she can use her AOL account. She uses Outlook for her work email account and AOL for her personal.

This is my problem, first Proxy needs to be installed for Outlook to access the POP3 server from work, but when Proxy is installed her AOL doesn't work correctly. With Proxy installed she is able to connect to AOL's main page but cannot do any browsing the Internet within AOL, but she can surf using IE. However, with Proxy installed the dial up function stops working. It fails to make network connections to AOL.

If I uninstall Proxy, Her AOL works on dial up but does not work TCP/IP and Outlooks is unable to get POP3 emails.

How can I get these two to work together, I want her to be able to access the Internet using the DSL at work through a proxy server and also be able to use a dial up connection when sheis away from work. I need Outlook to work within both settings.

Help!

Phill

You need to configure hardware profiles on the laptop...and that functionality is built in to win2k (and xp)

Look here for details on how to set it up and configure it:

good luck!

After contacting AOL, AOL informed me that AOL is not compatible with a Proxy and using Outlook at same time. Outlook uses the same settings as IE and Proxy scripts to IE preventing AOL from using IE. AOL promised this issue will be solved with release of AOL8

You need to check the Internet connection settings and make sure you are not using proxy for the dial-up connection and that you are using proxy for the LAN . Right click on IE icon on the desktop and select properties then select connections. Select the dail-up connection and choose setting. Make sure the proxy settings are unchecked. Next check the LAN setting and make the proxy setting are there. You can also configure AOL to use both the LAN and dial-up some where in the AOL properties
I hope this helps.
