Proxy Server 2.0 via MMC on XP Pro…

    Locked

    Good Afternoon

I am currently running Proxy Server 2.0. on an NT 4.0 SP6A Server box.

The question I have is, using the MMC on my XP Pro box, can I administer the Proxy 2.0 Server? I have Computer Management and Event viewer working through MMC, but would love to be able to admin the Proxy Services (i.e. Web, Socks, Winsock Proxies + Websites) via MMC too.

Also, does anyone have a script or batch job that will restart the Winsock Proxy or Web and Socks proxies if they stop? Right now, my Winsock Proxy dies every once in awhile, with wpsrv.exe errors or inetinfo errors?

Any help would be appreciated and my Thanks,

    Leo

I suggest upgrading to MS ISA Server instead and dump NT4 and Proxy Server.

It might be possible to administer Proxy server if its possible to just install the management tools from the Proxy Server CD.

While moving up to the next better system version would be the most ideal solution, with most IT budgets strained or being completely cut (like ours), doing so just isn’t an option.

As for installing the management tools from the CD, well, I think we have been down that road, and found no success. I will look into the documentation of our tries and see what notes were left after the try to install the tools. Who knows? Maybe someone overlooked trying this?

        Thank you,

        Leo

I would have suggested Terminal Services but it isn`t simple to install on NT4 as on 2000. Looks like you have to manage it from the server itself until you have more money.

This problem could be reason to justify an upgrade to your bosses to improve services!

If I could only justify things to the bosses and it actually work. Right now they might be trying to drive us all out the door, cause their profits haven’t been up to snuff. But hey, so goes the rat race. Thanks,
