Proxy Server 2.0

By paynen ·
i am currently using proxy server 2.0 on an NT 4.0 box that simply performs logging. Meaning it doesn't have two nics. I simply monitor and restrict web site content. However it seems to be getting slow. I did some perf mon on the box and the current average milliseconds/request is high - sometimes peaking at 100. I have about 2,000 users and I was thinking of a proxy farm. I just wanted some feedback on my assessment.

Proxy Server 2.0

paynen,
A good decision would be to get another machine involved at the least if the traffic continues. Questions: Is this a 10/100 network? What does the proxy connect to? Install a bridge, if its on a busy LAN. How much RAM/CPU does the machinehave? Let me know how you fare.

Some form of proxy array may well be worth considering. However this is going to involve purchasing new equipment, and you may find that the new equipment performs the task much better than the old.

Also did you check to see whether the utilisation of your internet connection was the cause of the problem? If you haven't had the speed incresed and demand has climbed, then the proxy will not be able to return non-cached content without a delay, as it will have to connect to the internet.
