what port do I need to leave open on Proxy Server to allow users to use instant messenger?

I wouldn't open another port I'm sure you can configure messenger to use port 80 thats what I do with yahoo messenger but if you must I'm sure you can check in the properties or preferences of msn messinger and it will show the default port

well if you want to use the socks port (i use it) then the proxy should have a socks port already open at 1080 if just useing the http proxy, then just go through that port useually 80 (but could also be 8080).
