I am having an extremely difficult and strange problem concerning an old Outlook 97 PST file and 2 freshly installed computers. One has Win2K/Office 2003 installed, the other has WinXP/Office 2003 installed.
The problems started when a Win98/Office 97 computer got updated to Win2000/Office 2003. The old PST file was imported in a freshly made empty PST file. The problem which arose was that whenever a new e-mail was being typed, the e-mail editor simply disappeared after about 1 minute. The same happened to word when I typed in it. This makes sense since Word is being used when making an e-mail in Outlook. I can work around this problem by not importing the PST file, but this isn?t a solution. The PST file has been checked for errors with SCANPST and Ontrack Easy Recovery 6.0. Both programs found errors and fixed them, but this didn?t fix my problem. As a temporary solution I TEMPORARILY replaced the PC with a new XP machine. This machine initially had the same problems but where fixed eventually. The solution: make a new e-mail profile with an empty PST file. Scan and fix this newly made file with SCANPST, scan and fix the old PST file and import it into the new one. Then scan and fix the new PST file which had the old e-mails imported into it. I did exactly the same to the Win2000 machine, but it didn?t do the trick there.
I need to have this old PST file working on the Win2000 computer, so I am rewarding 750 points to the person that has a good working solution for me.
