Maxtor has a disk utility program on thier site but I would suggest NOT using it on a Quantum drive. Quantum drives are technically a Western Digital product and you would be safer using WD's "Data LifeGuard Tools" which can be downloaded from the WD site. Follow the links to either page on the web and Choose your poison.
dwnld MaxBlast Plus at http://www.maxtor.com/Maxtorhome.htm

DO NOT LOW LEVEL FORMAT YOUR DRIVE.

This process is for much older hard drives (pre 2gig drives mainly) that basically work differently, if your lucky, low level formatting your drive will have no effect whatsoever, more likely it will completelydestroy your drive.

All you need is the normal format disk utility on your windows CD. Boot from your windows insall disk, select startup with CD drivers, and run the format disk util from CD.

If you need more help with this, mail me.

The utility you are looking for is called POWERMAX. (This is from Maxtor.)
It is self extracting from the pwrdiag.exe file.
Make a bootable floppy, copy pwrdiag.exe to it.
Boot on the floppy, run pwrdiag.exe, then type powermax.
From then on it's pretrty straightforward.
I will try to email you a copy of pwrdiag.exe shortly.
Regards, Chris

i would first try a good quality reputable anti virus boot disk first , chances are that formating of any kind might not get rid of the virus , it may be in your Bios alying dormant untill you are running again with a fresh drive .
