Query in Excel

By Murray_G ·
Trying to run a query in excel I am getting an error saying there is no Data. Can I get step by step instruction to run a query using a spread sheet with information. I am trying to pick out specific information from a worksheet.

Thanks

Go to Data>Get External Data and let the wizard set up the Query. As long as the data source remains in the same location, the query can be saved and rerun.

I forgot to mention I'm working in WIN95 and Excel Pre 2000. I went exactly where you said but it returns a no data in the source. What have I done wrong? CAn you give me step-by-step from a to z?

One way is to select the range you want included in the data source and then give it a name. Go to Insert>Name define. You can now refer to that range when you run the Query wizard.

One of the problems may be that your ODBC driver may need to be upgraded. You can find out if this is the problem by going into the control panel, go to ODBC Data Sources, and check to see if you have the latest version of the driver needed to run your query (in VFP, it's 6.00.8440.00). Once you make that determination, it can easily be downloaded and installed on your computer. You don't give much detail, such as whether you're accessing a data warehouse, whether the worksheet is local, which server is being used to store and manage that data, etc. Hope this helps!
