A few months ago my Windows 10 laptop started dropping connections to wifi. I have an internal 2.4 GHz card and a 5 GHz USB Wifi adapter and both will not work at the same time. I have the latest Windows 10 on my laptop which is a Lenovo B50-45. The laptop is pretty old and I wonder if some of the connections inside is coming loose or so. Tried numerous things including updating drivers, restarting routers. The laptop can’t connect to my phone’s hotspot either. Wondering any other way to troubleshoot before I just give up and buy a new laptop?

That’s expected behavior. At about 6 years old all bets are off as to cause and repair. I usually give the nod to the USB WiFi and leave it at that because of cost to repair. Even a clean install of Windows is not cheap here (min counter fee starts at 150USD.)

At this number of years it could be hardware but we always give a test boot of any of the Linux OSes to see if it works there. This test takes a few minutes and can lead us to advise a clean install or “stick with the USB WiFi.”

From where did you download the drivers? Sometimes complete drivers are not installed when we first download the drivers and then try to install. In Lenovo laptop you can install drivers directly from Lenovo utility tool.
