Quick launch bar problem in Win XP

By jmck382 ·
I have two invalid generic shout cut icon on the quick launch bar in Win XP. I can not delete or move them due to "cyclic redundancy error". Their presence slows the computer to a crawl so I disabled the Quick launch bar. How do I get rid of these short cut icons. (They used to be Publisher and PowerPoint).

No guarantees, but try the following two things.

Using explorer, browse to C:\documents and settings\yourusername\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quicklaunch and try to delete the files from there.

If that doesn't work. Go to the same location, but now from a command prompt. Enter a dir command, and then del shortcuttodelete.

last resort, try the command prompt thing after starting up in safe mode.

As the previous poste informed, you can remove your undesired Quick Launch icons by going to -

C:\Documents and Settings\--Usernamehere--\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Add or Remove the Shortcuts here as you like to access per your convenience.

The Icons cannot be deleted in this manner due to a "cyclic redundancy check" error posted by windows.

I have tried doing it in safe mode, with a registry editor, and with a command prompt. They all get the same "crc" error and they cannot be deleted or moved.
