Quick Launch icons generic - not app

By nschloss ·
I've added two shortcuts to many users Quick Launch bars. These shortcuts are functional, but after a system logon, the displayed icon is generic - not the icon for the underlying app. Right clicking the QL bar and 'refreshing' results in the propericons. The shortcut points to an app on a shared network drive. I don't have the same problem on my PC however - even though my config is the same. Why might they not be working for users? Is it because our drive mapping may not be complete when theQL bar is started? Is there a way to automate a refresh of the QL bar?

you dont have to do anything like that.

what you do is copy the program(s) you intend
to run onto the local disk. (you dont need to copy the dlls.) right click on the item, then choose properties. now click on change icon. then click on browse. select the program on the local drive and then select the appropiate icon then choose apply or ok.

now what happens is that the icon file will be loaded from the local drive so you know the correct icon will always appear.

I compromised on something similar. Extracted the relevant icons and copied them local to users and configured the app shortcut to use the new icon. Seems OK.
