Quick time and mpegs (conversion)

By itcanada ·
I use a sony dv camcorder. I recently purchased intro dv to transfer the movies from the camcorder to my computer. The intro dv software creates quicktime *.mov files. this works but is very sluggish when used on a 350 mhz machine. I am using an 850mhz machine and have no problems. But to share my movies with other slower machines, it is not very impressive. Can I convert quick time *.mov files to mpegs. Just like the images you receive in e-mails as attachments from friends/advertising/etc.? Or is there an easier way to create mpegs from my camcorder?

An application called Vidget at www.newtek.com (I believe this'll cost you).

A freeware tool here:
http://vcdhelp.com/movtompg.htm

Adobe Premiere is supposed to be able to convert to .avi files (again, $$$).

If you're intent on MPGs, then two tools (SmartVid and TMPGEnc) from this site will convert .mov to .avi and then to .mpg (there's some adult links on this site so be aware if you are sensitive to that):

Hope that helps,

Mov2avi.zip and Avi2mpg.exe are tools you can use to do this. A search will turn them up. Edit DV will allow you to EXPORT the movie as an avi file, perhaps Intro DV does as well.
DVConvert is another tool you may look into.
Also ABC Video roll has a trial version. You can make MPG files on your PC depending on which codecs you have installed. Lots of software will do the job. I have lots of this stuff.
