Radeon 9800 Pro does not work

By jcbangt ·
my video card doesn't seem to work for some reason. I uninstalled the drivers because i wanted to try out a Ge force video card but, then i didn't like it so i changed again and when i booted it up it loaded up the normal screen and said "Mode not supported"

You can't see anything on the screen but that error of somesort that says "mode not supported"

My Specs:
P4 3.2
1 G.B. RAM
9800 Pro (doesn't work)
Hard Drive 80 GB
Windows Xp Home Edition
Motherboard-Elitegroup PT800CE-A

It sounds as though the video card was not detected correctly, open Device Manager and under display make sure that you donot have the uninstalled card listed, then try loading the video card manually

OK I take it that when you say that you can not see anything you have a blank screen so you can not open any of Windows diagnostics. If you still have the Ge Force Vid Card reinstall it and boot up. You should then be able to remove its drivers or at the very least boot into safe mode. If you no longer have that Vid Card just boot into safe Mode by holding down the F8 key as Windows Starts. I take it that you are seeing the POST Screen and the Windows Splash Screen but nothing once Windows Opens if that is the case Booting in Safe Mode should allow you to remove the Ge Force Drivers and change to the Windows Default Vid drivers then you can reboot the computer and install the correct drivers.

If you are seeing absolutely nothing try resetting your Vid card to see if this cures the problem and if it doesn't you're up for another Video Card as you have somehow managed to stuff the one that you currently have. But I'm betting that you have the Ge Force Drivers installed and are trying to run the 9800 Vid Card off those.

That should cure your problem but if it doesn't please post again with what you are seeing and what has been done and I'll see what I can come up with.
