Radeon cant extend desktop dual monitor

By nevernessit ·
I have a new dual monitor display on my ATI Radeon 9250 but all I can achieve at the moment is to have the primary display cloned on the seond monitor. (I have the main monitor plugged in to the VGA and the second monitor in the DVI)
If I click on the Identify button both monitors display the 1 on the screen.
I have checked the box on the second monitor to say extend my desktop onto this display, but it still doesnt do anything.
If I drag my mouse over to the edge of the screen the mouse will continue to move as if there is a second display setup, I just cant get get it to display on the second monitor.
Please help! I have written to ATI to no avail.

The VGA/DVI is a either or connection. If you want dual moniters you need to by a cheap ATI display card (CompUSA has a house brand ATI chip for less than 30.00). Once you have the new card, leave the current one installed and the ATI software will see the new one after the drivers are installed.

I checked and the 9250 is indeed, multi-display support. Do you see an ATI Manager? This should either be in your program list or down in your system tray. I had an ATI 7000 manager and the XP driver was hard to install. I actually had to wipe it out of the registry to get it to re-install and work properly.

Also, the DVI port may have a mini-connector going to the card itself. Check to make sure the connection is secure. Have you checked to make sure the ATI card supports both of these monitors?

The connector is fine on the card, and yes, both monitors are supported by the card, apparently.
I have also used the ATI manager and try as I might I can not get the two monitors to display seperate desktops.
The best I have achieved so far is to get both monitors to display the second desktop (the blank one), but obviously this is no solution.
ATI did get back to me, and their reply was basically read the FAQ. I did that, and scoured the rest of their site, but still I have had no luck.
Please help! Im thinking I might have to put a second video card in to the system, but that defeats the point of having a multi-display capable video card!
