Raid 5 dis-Array

By christopher.wibberley ·

We recently had a raid configuration mishap.
Someone removed the 4 drives without noting the order from a Dell 6600.

Is it possible to recover from this error by either simply replacing the drives in any order or by using some method to discover the drives order?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

but I am pretty sure the order does indeed matter. but I could be wrong. You can always try putting the disks back in and see. Worst case scenario you loose all of the data on the disks. (You have a recent back up I hope?) but, atm, your there anyway. If possible, I would make images of each disk and label them. DiskA.img and a label on drive tray saying DiskA etc. With images, the data is there if you can find the order.

It will be hit and miss on this one, you will just have to test it out. It will be possible but a very slow task, just make sure that you make a plan of what goes where and does not work drawing. Good luck on this one.

Please post back if you have more problems or questions.
