RAID 5 Performance

By jlbpotter ·
I have a server running W2K Server with 4 HDDs configured in a hardware RAID 5. One of my drives failed and I am currently running on 3 drives. This server has a SQL 2000 database on it. I am not going to be able to replace the HDD for 2 or 3 days. Can I expect much of a performance issue or slow downs running the server this way? Thanks

You shouldn't see much of a performance issue as that drive was mainly used for redundancy. However, not having 4 or 24 hour support leaves alot to the imagination on a server.

Most of my servers have 4-6 drives and I have actually had 1 drive fail, then a few hours later, another fail... (Bad drives). If you have 4 and are down to three, just be concerned, if another fails you will have a few issues arise... performance, errors, etc.

Possibly this could be a pro / con meeting with the bosses to buy updated support for your servers just for this reason alone.

That is what I thought but I just wanted to hear from someone else. By the way I have a P.O signed for 3 more HDDs for this server so that we have some backups. Thanks for your time.
