Raid 5 removed the wrong failed drive …

by mg . Updated 18 years, 6 months ago

Adptec 2810 card with 6 drives 1.8T on winXP.

Drive #3 failed.
Then it decided it was a new driver and started a rebuild. I wanted to stop that, so I removed the drive’s power.

Of course I fucked up, I removed the wrong drive# (2) … now both drives are listed as failed and I cannot recover anything.

As far as I understand there is a superblock on all disks, listing the good/bad disks, and if I can rewrite this to indicate #2 is actually good, I could recover.

But how? the Adaptec docs/CLI doesn’t give a hint. If I installed the 5 drives as regular drives, could I use Raid in software? are the specifications a fullproof standard?

needless to say, my backup was incomplete…
