Raid set-up Where are my 80 gigs?

By photodigital ·
I just installed a raid array o striping,
Two wd 40 gig ulta ata 7200 rpm drives.
Problem / the computer see's 40 gig?
I have a htp raid program that see's the two hdds as master primary and master secondary.<striped>
This is a abit th7-raid board P-4 1.5 gig 128 rdram pc-800 non ecc. Also can I add slaves to these with out fdisking the whole array? I think not on that one?

The answer could be one of a few things-

A: you setup the raid incorrectly (you might have mirrored instead of striped, or maybe you have the wrong size input).

B: you have a bad RAID controller (unlikely)

c: One of the drives is bad (FAT table is wrong, etc)

I would start over from scratch on this one, honestly. Reformat the drives, delete the array, then create a new one.

And no, you can't just add drives to a striped array. You could create a NEW array WITH the drives andthe older ones, or i would maybe go ahead and just have a second set of drives on their own array.

Good luck!

The array you mentioned can only be as large as the smallest disk in it - 40G.
There's nothing wrong with your computer.

That's why they call it RAID. It's a REDUNDANT Array of Inexpensive Disks. The second one is there to back up the first one. You don't see the other 40G.
