RAM

By casey678 ·
This is the second computer I have had this problem with. My ram doesnt seem to be getting refreshed. After playing on the internet for about an hour, my ram seems to fill up. I cant see pages, or I get partial pages. I have 512M of DDR. Seems like I should be able to have 20+ pages open without a bogdown.

Sounds more like a connection issue. Let's have a little more information:

what type of pc
what type of processor
size of hard disk
type of internet connection (modem, dsl, cable)
what operating system

and anything else about your computer.

You may have a memory leak. You can try running a memory manager such as memturbo to monitor and clean out memory leaks.

How much free HDD space do you have?
If you have limited HDD space, or have set too small of a fixed swap file, that can also cause memory bog-downs.

If you are running Windows 9X or Me, you may be running into the large memory problem that is built into the OS.
The "bug" is VERY configuration dependant. Removing a device driver, or a TSR program could cause it togo away.
The only fixes for the memory bug are to reduce the amount of RAM, or upgrade to XP.

I build ALL of my 9X boxes with a MAXIMUM of 384MB of RAM to avoid this problem.
In fact, some benchmark tests have shown "optimum" performance in W98with 196MB of RAM.

Definitely need more info. You need to run System Monitor or equivalent and see what is happening. There is also some patches for older OS's that address slow down issues on a network or online, but if you are running DDR, I doubt it is an older OS.
