RAM machine

By wesley.chin ·
How realistic is the computer that runs off of RAM and no hard drive? With the talk of terabytes of RAM, is it more possible?

I don't see why not

by mjd420nova In reply to RAM machine

I think it would be a good thing, no drive to fail and much faster access. The technology could lead to a completely solid state computer with no working parts. Just lots of RAM and no drives, shipped from the factory with windows loaded. Everything could be ROM based for loading, even the network card on a wireless interface. Would sure **** the Iphone out of the water.

Already on sale at wal-mart

the asus eee machine (newegg.com) and walmert too I think is just that.
512m ram
4g solid state non-volatile memory

It boots much faster. DOn't expect the same size non-volatile storage while solid state disk is 7-10 times as expensive as hard disk.
