Hello folks. First time poster. I’m having a RAM issue with Vista. I have read all of the information about how Vista reports RAM, reporting 3GB or 3.5GB or so when 4GB are installed, etc. However, I think my issue is a bit unique. If not, I’d like some further clarification.
I currently have 3GB of RAM in a test system. I upgraded from 1GB when I installed Vista. I have 2x1GB and 2x512MB. Vista only shows that I have 2GB of RAM. I had been concluding that it was a result of kernal utilization, etc. as had been reported on numerous websites. However, it shows 2044MB of RAM on the system, and something kept bugging me at what a convenient number that was. So, I pulled the 2x512MB out of the system and booted back up. Windows report on RAM…2044MB. So, Windows sees 2GB of RAM if I have 2GB of RAM in the system, and 2GB of RAM if I have 3GB of RAM in the system. BIOS shows 3GB, Crucialscan shows 3GB, cpu-z shows 3GB, but Vista and a few RAM utilization tools I downloaded while trying to figure this out, all show 2GB of RAM. Can anyone offer me any insight into this, or tell me of a tool that will report all RAM alocation, so I can test further? Thanks in advance.
