I need a little help. My laptop keeps shutting down at random times, and by shutting down, I mean shutting off with no warning. This started one month after I got it. When I turn it back on, the date and time are completely off. It’s usually 2010 and 11:00 a.m. I’ve sent it back to the company once already, and they sent it to the manufacturer to check the CMOS and found no problems. Apparently, the problem never happened in the time they had it, but it happened again two days after I got it back, and has kept happening.
It happens on battery power alone, and with battery/ac power, but hasn’t happened (yet) if I take out the battery and just run it on ac power alone. This seems to suggests a battery problem, but the company I bought it from is being less than helpful.
Any ideas, tips, suggesting on how I can fix this? Could it be as simple as replacing the battery or does it involve the motherboard?
