RANT – Blocked Websites

by bizzo . Updated 18 years ago

Trying to look at Dumphrey’s “A little light humor on Monday” post https://www.techrepublic.com.com/5208-6230-0.html?forumID=102&threadID=265938&start=0 and it’s yet another site that’s been blocked here at work, “Adult Content”.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to ask how to get around it.

They’ve been slowly tightening the restrictions over the past few months.

Originally it started with the usual, games sites, facebook, etc, not bothered about those.
Then streaming media and adverts are being blocked, a little perturbed about that one as it includes a lot of the bbc news website and almost all webcast/podcast sites, even the adverts on TR are blocked, leaving just white space.

Now photobucket and imageshack are blocked, which means most peoples avatars are blank. So TR is mostly white space, except for the text. I would take a screen dump to show you, but I have nowhere to host it!

Tried to download some sysinternals stuff yesterday, guess what? Blocked, because it allows you to download software. This was before I remembered that the sysinternals stuff is now on Microsoft. I’ve found recently that most of the sites I used to go to to download sharewares are blocked.

I do tend to download a fair amount of shareware tools and visit forums because of the work I do. I found that last week I had to download some stuff at home as it was all blocked.

I wonder what’s going to be blocked next.

End of my rant.
Now it’s your turn.
