Here we are once again for this week’s “Rant of the week”. As always this is your chance to listen to me whine, complain, stomp my little foot and just give my feeble little opinion (as little as we all know that might be). 🙂
For those who are regulars you can guess what “person” is responsible for this week’s rant. No names need to be mentioned, they know who they are.
Mean people suck!
I have no doubt that we all have run across someone at one time or another whose sole purpose in life is to just be “mean”, “disrespectful”, “impolite”, “barbaric”, “uncivil”, “unrefined” and just plain “rude” toward anything or anyone. I’m not talking about the occasional “rudeness”, heck even I can be found guilty of that from time to time (Sorry, Mr.Telemarketer who has called me 15 million times today – But what part of “don’t call me, don’t you understand?”). I’m talking about the person who goes out of their way to be “rude” and just downright “mean”. The person who seems to get pleasure out of bursting other folks bubble or good-will by being nasty and making uncalled for comments toward them.
I use to have an Aunt that was just like this. It drove me nuts, so I always tried to stay far from her. She was so miserable with her own life, she went out of her way to ensure others were just as miserable. She lived up to the saying “Misery loves company”, the problem was, no one wanted to be in her company so I guess she was trying to get some with her tactics. She just could not allow anyone to experience happiness or joy, without spouting off some cruel or uncalled for comment. I use to get mad at her for her rudeness, then I started feeling sorry for her. I just couldn’t imagine what would make a person be so mean-spirited to others, especially with so much misery already going on in the world. She had a wonderful husband, two paid for homes, one apartment complex, a grocery store, a night club, plenty of money, her children were all successful, one would think she had nothing to be miserable about. She had all this while people all across the world were starving, being beaten, raped and tortured, were living on the streets, had no family and basically had good reason to be miserable and rude toward others. But a lot of them do not. A lot of them do not carry a “chip” on their shoulder. A lot of them do not lash out at others for no reason. A lot of them would be seen as having good cause, but they do not.
What ever happen to “Be a good neighbor” or “Do unto others”? Can you imagine if every last person actually followed them two rules? How much better our world would be?
My husband often accuses me of being naive, not because my brain is empty, but because I try and search for the good in all.
What could possibly make a person be so mean-spirited and rude without being provoked, just for the simple joy and pleasure of it? Is it caused by life in general? Their genetic code? The way they were raised? or some other unknown factor I haven’t named?
All I can say is – Mean people suck!!
